About us

North East Locations is built on industry experience, local knowledge and strong relationships across the region.

We work with film, television, commercial and photography productions, connecting them with the right locations, people and organisations. From city streets and industrial spaces to coastline, countryside, historic buildings and private homes, the North East offers an exceptional range of filming opportunities.

Because we work within the industry, we understand what productions need. We help with scouting, access, permissions, logistics and local contacts, making filming in the region as straightforward and well supported as possible.

We also work with property owners and organisations to bring new locations into the industry and create opportunities for local people and businesses.

Frequently asked questions

For productions

What is our background?

We are experienced location professionals based in the North East, with regional and national experience across all aspects of location work. From scouting and location management to unit management, we understand what is required to keep filming running smoothly.

We combine practical experience, local knowledge and trusted contacts to support your production.

Can you work with our existing location department?

Yes. We provide regional scouting, local research and additional crew while working alongside your supervising location manager and production team.

Do you cover the whole North East?

Yes. We cover Newcastle, Gateshead, North and South Tyneside, Sunderland, County Durham, Northumberland and the Tees Valley. We confirm availability and travel requirements when discussing your brief.

What information do you need to begin a location search?

Please provide your creative brief or reference images, filming dates, preferred area, estimated crew size and practical requirements. If your plans are still developing, we can work with the information available.

Can you help with filming permissions?

Yes. We identify the relevant owners, councils and authorities, coordinate enquiries, and support applications and negotiations. Formal permission must come from the responsible owner or authority.

Do you have experience with accessibility on location?

Yes. We have completed the accredited 5As for Location Managers training with Access All Areas Productions, and have worked directly alongside access coordinators on productions.

We think about access from the first recce, from step-free routes and parking to where unit base and accessible welfare go, so the location works for the whole cast and crew.

Do you operate a public location library?

No. Our main service is bespoke location scouting and practical support. We search to your brief and check each location’s suitability and availability before presenting it.

How are your services charged?

We charge either a daily rate or an agreed project fee, depending on the scope of work. We confirm the services, rates and anticipated expenses in advance. Location fees and supplier costs are listed separately.

Can you support urgent filming enquiries?

Where availability allows, yes. Send us your brief and proposed dates and we will confirm what is achievable. Permission timescales vary, so please contact us as early as possible.

For property owners

Can I put my property forward as a filming location?

Yes. We welcome enquiries from property owners, businesses and organisations across the region. Register your interest and we will contact you when a suitable brief arises.

Does registering a location mean that you represent it?

No. Registration means that you are open to suitable filming enquiries. Any formal representation or authority to negotiate on your behalf must be agreed separately.

Can property owners decline a filming enquiry?

Yes. Registering your property does not commit you to accepting filming. You can review each proposal before deciding, subject to any existing agreement.
